Benefits of a Life Coach – What is a Life Coach?

This is the first in a series of posts that will talk about the purpose and the role of a life coach, as well as the benefits of working with one. I’ve found that one of the biggest challenges that I face in my business is educating the public on what a life coach really is or does. The purpose of these posts is to answer those questions.

I initially became interested in the profession of life coaching after writing a college paper on an “up and coming profession”. I am a bit of a self-help junky, and I was initially made aware of the life coaching concept / profession through various books and audio programs that I had read or listened to. But, maybe like you, I wasn’t completely sold on and didn’t fully understand the process of working with a life coach. So, what did I do? I hired my own life coach to explore the process first hand. So, what happened? After less than a year of working with my own coach, I launched my business (GAIN Life Global, LLC). I can honestly say today that without that experience of working with my own life coach (Tommy Lanham), I wouldn’t be writing this article today.

So, the golden question – what is a life coach? This is a question that I’m asked regularly, and one that many life coaches struggle with answering. My answer to this question is simple. A life coach is an unbiased, non-judgmental partner that you can team up with to help you get from Point A to Point B on your personal roadmap to success. In that process, a life coach will not only help you gain clarity on what your desired destination looks likes, but will serve as a strategizing partner, a sounding board, a motivator, an action planner, a source of accountability, and above all else, someone who believes in you and your ability to achieve greatness in your life – whatever that may mean to you.

A good life coach can help you move forward in any area of your life, whether it be moving into a new career that you are passionate about, becoming a more productive person, establishing better life balance, losing forty pounds, or just bringing more happiness into your life. A life coach is not necessarily an expert in any of these areas, but their job is to help you become the expert.

My mission is to someday bring the concept and practice of life coaching mainstream, and to make the use of a life coach as common as the use of a hairstylist. I truly and honestly believe that everyone can benefit from working with a life coach and my vision is that someday everyone will have that opportunity.

Have you had the opportunity to work with a life coach? Do you have a desire to move forward in any area of your life? Take it from me – partnering with a life coach can change your life. It changed mine! I always offer a free (no obligation) introductory session to get you started. This is a great way to not only demonstrate the process of life coaching, but to also give you a chance to move forward in any area of your life, for free. If you’re ready to give it a try, I encourage you to sign-up for a free coaching session on my website at GAIN Life Coaching.

I’m looking for comments on this topic. If you’ve worked with (or are working with) a life coach, what was / is the experience like for you? Has working with a life coach helped you move forward in your life? I’m looking forward to hearing from you! — Brian
